LavaPlace is a dating site with members from all over the world (around 210 countries in total!). Its free service offers the ability to create a profile with a photo, perform a search, get automatic matches, wink at other members, read email and receive incoming instant messages. You’ll probably notice, however, that the communications on offer are one-way, meaning that to take advantage of the systems in place you’ll need to be a paying member, making its free membership quite useless for any dating options.
An international dating site is a nice idea (it could allow you to potentially meet with people from completely different parts of the world, with different opinions and takes on life) but how successful is it likely to be? Chances are you don’t want to buy a plane ticket every time you want to go on a date – that could get expensive, and the jet lag could be a bore! How about something a little closer to home? Well, our initial impression of the results we gained from a basic search were quite deflating. There were few results and even then a number of the members seemed inactive. An international dating site needs high membership numbers otherwise all of those members live too far away from one another to bother using the site regularly.
There are some issues with the presentation of LavaPlace.com, too. Primarily, the site looks poorly designed, with long sprawling lists of place names and links to pages, all of which are underlined and in a bland colour pallet. It’s not necessarily difficult to navigate but at times it’s simultaneously a strain on the eyes and a bore to behold. Members’ photos range from acceptable to terrible, though most are clear enough.
The site’s features are fairly standard but there’s nothing innovative or unique about them. You can view who is online at the same time as you, which is one way to save time by avoiding having to work your way through dead profiles, but generally you’re likely to find that the online members live in a land far-far away.
LavaPlace.com feels a bit slapdash. Its design is old fashioned, its features are basic, its searches do little to offer any realistically-viable dating options. Its price is relatively low, but not particularly good value. If you find a member or two who really seem to be what you’re looking for then perhaps this site is worth consideration, otherwise there are plenty of others out there.
