Match.com

I'm male, 53 (look 43 maybe), fairly decent looking, been on-off this site since Feb 2011. Divorced. Women I date are mostly 40-52 range, divorced. I've have dated several women from this site (match.com) in last 11 months. Some of the women I have had an easy time meeting, some are more elusive. Normally, I like to wait until I get someone that either emails me or shows "interest" or wink before trying to contact them. When I try to initate contact with them I'm only successful in getting a meeting with them about maybe 30% of the time. Rest of the time I get ignored. It's all about chemistry, if she doesn't see it in your photo and profile then fuggitaboutit. Move on. Same with me. Not all the emails, winks, and interests I get are from women I would be interested in dating. I have heard from nearly all the women I have dated off this site that tell me that some of the men on match.com "just don't get it". The women don't don't want to see shirtless photos and profiles that sound egotistical or written by some guy that can't even spell. I don't browse... (Read the full review)

This is for anti-social types

I actually gave this 5 stars in some cases but overall 1 star - it would have been 0 if that would have worked. Problem is the type of people this attracts. If you have some social capabilities then join a club, take a class, get involved and meet new people that way. Otherwise the quality of person you meet on match.com is low - BUT you will find some people that look good on a web site, write interesting articles and give all the right answers, but who are providing you the ideal, and what you want to hear. Lots of salesmanship, including photos that are doctored or very old. Besides that, in some cases, there is the scam potential - especially if they appear to good to be true - both on the web site and in person. Lots of black widows out there, and in fairness lots of men who eat their young as well. If you are going the match.com route you had better put on your skeptical hat, and then also go join a social org of some type where you can meet new people.

In summary, I would not recommend Match.com to a friend.

Scammers and shills and no dates, oh my!

Yes, it's Match.com, the internet dating juggernaught. They're huge, bigger than Oprah from what I've seen. However, bigger doesn't necessarily mean better.

I was a member last year and gave them a 3-month trial of my own. Posting a profile and filling out the information was fairly easy. Site navigation and search parameters were fair; they did change the site layout but got accustomed to that quickly. The FAQ section was also very imformative.

Enough positives about Match.com, let's discuss their negative attributes.

Profiles, they have tons of them, the question is which ones are active/inactive/real/unreal/etc. You can be assured that if you saw the "last visited three weeks ago", either they haven't been on in three weeks (I'm not one of buy something and not use it) or their inactive and Match.com is using the profile as a shill...that's a gambling term for a casino employee that plays a game (bacarrat especially) in order to attact players to the table.

I think the majority of the profiles are either from inactive members or fake, as I had several ladies in their 20s send me messages with poor grammar, punctuation or spelling; most of these were... (Read the full review)

Match.com is a scam fest but not much else

All contacts but one were dislocated from their profile, mostly in Ghana where they somehow ended up by some accident of fate and need you to send money. You can feel the love and that's about the most fun you're going to have on Match.com via IM or Yahoo mail. Usually they send some nice pictures but I did get some from a scammer who was so lazy that he/she sent me photos of a pregnant woman. Is my name Earl?

The rest of the profiles are stale. I've seen some that haven't been accessed for "over three weeks" for over three months. They should clear them out but they actually send these via email as "See today's matches:" followed by invariably stale and defunct profiles.

So, chances of getting a date with anyone don't qualify for a star. After four months and no contacts while sending emails to /dev/null, zero dates is the total. That means zero chance of getting a date. And I'm a tall, employed, decent looking, in shape guy.

The other problem is censorship. You think you're going to spice up your profile? Not a chance in Hell. They will ensure that it's dull enough to make a Trappist... (Read the full review)

Too many fake and inactive profiles!

I signed up for match.com in may 2010. after a month i decided to bite the bullet and signed up for a 6 month membership. you can get another six months free if you keep your profile visible at all times. I met someone in early June and chose to hide my profile while we dated. ( i knew id lose the extra six months). well the relationship barely lasted a month. so i put my self out there again. after using it since July 2010 i realized there are gobs of fake profiles appearing (Nigerian Russian) scammers after a while i can spot them very quickly.. i report them and a few days later they disappear. im sure if match was serious about getting rid of these people they would set it up so that your credit card has to match your profile or you will not be allowed on the site.. that would solve that problem pretty quick. however i realized match is probably making tons of money off these spammers. also like someone else commented its not fair that you dont know who is or isn't a paid member. if you check the other persons last active... The Biggest Dating Site on the Net!
09 October 2010
Reviewer: Single Guy from Houston, Texas, USA

Match.com is easily the biggest dating site on the net, with nearly 30 million members - that's bigger than the whole population of some countries! The ratios of men to women are also fairly evenly spread at about 50:50 from what I've seen, which gives both sexes an equal chance at finding a match online. The navigation is really easy, and once you're a member you can browse and search for other members all day long by a wide range of different criteria.

I've actually been a member of many dating sites (not wanting to put all my eggs in one basket) but Match.com is definitely the one with which I've had the most success.

If you're single then I highly recommend you give it a try. Joining is free so you've got nothing to lose by trying it.

In summary, I would recommend Match.com to a friend.

Match.com... not as it seems

Reviewer: Sports Guy from New York

I think this site's review of Match is very biased in favor of Match.

While there are many positives about Match including large membership, ability to select precisely what you are seeking and ease of use, there is one glaring negative. The membership numbers are not real. You never know whether you are writing to someone or your mail ends up in cyberspace. Many "members" are NOT members and can't open the mail or respond. If Match is taking people's money, they should at least guarantee people that their mail will be delivered and the contacted people are in fact capable of responding. Yes, if you want to know if your mail has been received, you can pay extra for this feature. Why should people have to pay for this? The whole setup is designed to look like more than what it is. Buyer Beware!

In summary, I would recommend Match.com to a friend.
