Lovestruck is a professional dating and matchmaking service for residents of major cities in the UK, US, Asia and Australia. Very much a new kid on the block, Lovestruck has grown fairly rapidly in the past few months, particularly due to aggressive advertising campaigns in subways around major business hubs and city centres. As the site is at pains to note, Lovestruck is primarily for professionals who lack the time to date in a traditional way, with users being able to use a number of tools on the site (specifically designed around this ‘professional lifestyle’) to meet others and get to know them.
Members of Lovestruck can register free and create their own profile to help attract other members. What is interesting about Lovestruck is the way in which members interact with each other – the main tool for hooking up is not searching lists of members for possible matches, but by letting others know whether you’re ‘available’ (and if so, when). Members can then simply search through for any members in their area who are, for example, free for coffee, to see if they might like to meet up. Of course, members can still search through members the ‘traditional’ way, as well as sending email messages to take an online relationship a little further, but the main premise of the site is to share ‘availability’ with others (and hopefully, find someone to meet up with during that time!)
Although Lovestruck has a number of good features, there are a few problems with this site. Firstly, the site is completely useless outside of its target cities. The site operates around 20 cities worldwide, with around half of these cities being in the UK. Outside of these cities, you are unlikely to be able to find more than one or two members, making the site a waste of time and money for those outside of the city. Secondly, the site offers limited features in some areas and is missing some major elements, such as an instant messaging feature and the capacity to add more than 7 photos to a profile. Finally, Lovestruck is rather expensive, with a year’s ‘elite’ membership costing just under £200 (and the cheapest monthly membership package costing £39 a month). Whilst we understand this pricing structure is probably intended to filter members based on income, we don’t think it’s entirely justified given the relatively small size of the site.
If you’re a professional living in one of Lovestruck’s targeted cities, this site could definitely be what you’re looking for. If not, however, we’d suggest you look elsewhere to find a site that better caters to your needs.
