Meetic.com is an international dating site with a primary focus in Europe.
It has relationships with Match.com, the worlds largest
dating
site, and Mate1.com another prominent site.
It states
that its membership exceeds 17 million, making it the largest site operating in Europe. That figure may be open
to
question. What matters most is how well the site
serves its members' needs.
Meetic's customer service teams, numbering over 25, are one of the biggest for a dating site. They oversee the profiles and pictures
posted
to confirm that they are suitable for a "G" Rated site. As a new
member
you have to wait for a profile 'approval' before gaining full access to
the site, which is usually achieved within hours. While your
profile is pending approval, you are only allowed to access members' photos,
ages and usernames.
We found the site's menus and
search engine
to be first-rate with nice sensible navigation. The design
and
layout are modern and comfortable to view. This combined with
their dedicated support team makes for a trouble free, enjoyable,
user-friendly experience. The chat rooms (available for group, public or
private conversations) are a prominent community-building
feature for members to explore and utilize at their convenience.
In our benchmark search we
came up
with a reasonable number of matches making a good chance for a
compatible match or three. The photo quality was good
and the photos themselves were very good. Meetic has succeeded
in getting
members to use well-defined head shots as their main profile photo and fill in
the other photo spots with appropriate full-body shots. The percentage
of members having photos was greater than 80%. Meetic deserve to be praised for achieving that bit of magic.
As
is typically the case with many of the bigger dating sites, very little is given away for free.
Contact
options
for free members are reduced to sending '"winks" to your dating interests. The excellent Video Calling feature
is also only
available to paying premium members. On-site you can access another premium member
through their username and, with their permission and
knowledge,
you can initiate or receive a video / audio conversation. We
think this is a great feature with many advantages. It
establishes a live line of communication far superior to simply e-mailing a
member. It allows personality traits to be displayed, which
is
vital for discovering the level of attraction, and although
it
may make for an initial nervous moment or two, the playing field is
truly level (they may be a little nervous too). The strength
of
this informal method of meeting has nearly all the benefits of a
face-to-face meeting, with none of the inconvenience involved in
personally meeting another (when, where, what setting,
etc). Nor are normal concerns regarding personal safety going to be a factor with video calling.
With the technical capabilities so available, Video Calling should
become a staple
on all dating sites in the very near future.
In the
value
department we have to stipulate the following: if you reside in a
densely populated European location, the site is a value winner.
With such a concentration of members, and lots of excellent features, you should get some good results. Meetic seems to have everything
you could ask for.
If you reside outside
Europe then
we can't make the same statement. You'd probably be better served by
another major site whose focus of operation prominently impacts your
locale. (If unsure, you 'd need to verify by performing a
local
search). In either case, Europe is well served
with this
user-friendly , member aware site.
