You’ve probably heard of Friends Reunited, a website which aimed to put old friends back in touch with each other. Well now they’re in the dating game and first impressions are good, with a slick, colourful site which seems to do the fundamentals well.

A basic search offered a good number of singles in our locale, many of whom had uploaded photos and made an effort to complete their profile. There were plenty to choose from, a great number with a good quality photo. Sadly, free members cannot see an enlarged image, so have to rely on a thumbnail, which makes it difficult to decide whether or not you’re attracted to someone. Search options are a little limited but the various sorting options are very useful on this site because they allow you to focus on members who are active on the site and avoid any who have long since abandoned their profiles. That said, there are reports of fake profiles and members being inundated with messages from scammers who are trying to encourage money out of them, so beware!

You can chat with other members through email or an instant messenger, but there’s no sign of video chats. A number of success stories are available to keep you inspired and a daily dating article is published for hints and tips on the best way to go about getting and experiencing a date. But this feels a bit of an unbalanced relationship and we would like to have seen a few more forums and message boards so that you have an opportunity to express yourself as well as taking on the “professional” advice. There are some such chat rooms available but they are quite limited in scope and topic.

FriendsReunitedDating.com is relatively easy to use, with clear headings, colourful banners and useful buttons about the site that help point you in the right direction. You can keep a very clear check on your activity on the site and signing up was simple enough, if a little ordinary. You might want to think about the cost of this site, too, as it’s not the cheapest around (though it does offer a 3 day trial which is a good opportunity to get in touch with a few members who you’ve found ahead of schedule).

This is a decent dating website which has a solid foundation and a large enough membership to keep you interested. Its free membership option allows you to perform searches but offers little else of use; real communication is reserved for paying members. We recommend taking up a free membership, scoping out potential dates and then deciding whether or not you would like to pay to contact them directly. You never know who you might find!
