Editor's Verdict:

LavaPlace.com is an example of an international dating site.  Serving over 210 countries, they are attempting to take on the "world" of dating.  In place of charging a subscription for their services, they feature advertisers as their primary revenue source.  LavaPlace appears to be a site that's in flux.  They have elements of a social networking site and those of a dating site.  We'll evaluate them strictly for how they meet the needs of dating members.

The Lave Place site has sort of a 90's look to it, even though dating websites really didn't emerge until about the 2000 -2001 time frame.  Still, it has an old school appearance with its design and particularly its structure.  Although it is relatively easy to navigate, the site has a lot of stuff on the screen at all times making it quite cluttered. The images and text aren't as orderly or as logically arranged as we're accustomed to.

LavePlace claim a dating membership "in the hundreds of thousands". This is not a number that we expect to work for a mainstream dating website, particularly on an international level which has a geographically dispersed membership.  

Lava Place has some nice features including an instant messenger, a mutual matching feature and internal e-mail access. However, the lack of activity and involvement on the dating side of things is likely to be a problem for anyone keen to actually find a mutual match. LavaPlace has the toys in the sandbox, but you are unlikely to find many playmates with whom you want to build your dream castle and live happily ever after.  As a social experience, it would probably work well, as you have the component technology for that sort of activity - just not for finding suitable people to date.

With this in mind, we performed our standard  search. This benchmark search came back with just 12 listings.  Of  those, 10 had pictures but only 2 had been on the site within the past two months. This is a sure sign of an unproductive website for dating. With such low numbers and low activity levels, it can't possibly offer the option of finding a truly suitable partner. You could get lucky with just a few choices - just don't bet on it.

The problem is a simple one.  For dating,  you need a very large group of local members that you can choose from.  We all have fairly broad personality types and physical characteristics. Good dating websites have enough people present, (with the right demographics), to be able to make lots of suitable match-ups, with all the different possible combinations. LavaPlace is not such a dating site.

We don't want to judge LavaPlace overly-harshly as they are clearly trying to offer a good dating experience, but they don't have the resources (members) to make this work on an international scale. They seem to have a Russian connection and perhaps that's where they've originated or had success.  Perhaps they are still in the early stages of growth, internationally.

As a free site with a severely limited membership, there is nothing to  talk about value-wise. LavaPlace are suitable as a small social networking location.
