My experience with Meetic is, overall, negative. It is possible to find real people and get dates, I certainly did, but I was disgusted by what they did after I decided to cancel my subscription.

Basically, if you don't login for a few days, they send you e-mails telling you that "someone" wrote you a message. Problem is, to read the message, you need to pay for a new subscription. Since I haven't really found anyone interesting, I decided to renew my subscription and see who was this woman who, apparently, had the initiative to contact me. It's certainly a woman of good taste, so probably worth a look.

However, once my new subscription was accepted, the unread e-mail disappeared from my message box. I went back to my e-mail inbox, copied the woman's username, and pasted it on the Search box. No one with that username existed. I thought this was weird. Could it be this woman cancelled her subscription just minutes from me renewing mine? And would that auto-delete her unread message?

Later, I stopped visiting the site regularly again. This time my subscription was still active, but it has been over a week since I logged in. Surprise! I get a new e-mail from Meetic saying that "someone" just messaged and, fortunately, I was online when I got that e-mail so I instantly logged in and checked my message box... guess what, nothing. And searching for that username also turned out nothing. The user didn't exist and I was never sent anything.

At that point, it became clear. Meetic has some sort of bot that sends "message warnings" to users who haven't logged in for awhile. It's just a trick to lure users back in.

Also, I doubt the dozens of women who regularly checked my profile were real either because I contacted a few of them, and they never replied back, so I believe some of that "traffic" was just to create the illusion that my profile was more interesting than it really was.

If I haven't actually met some people, while I was there, I would've given this site the lowest score. But, as it happens, yes, if you have an active approach and send messages to other members, you might get to know a few people through Meetic. But make no mistake, this isn't a honest dating site. They use shady tactics to keep you coming back.

With the huge number of similar websites out there these days, I'm taking my money elsewhere.

In summary, I would not recommend Meetic.com to a friend.
