Editor's Verdict:

Based on our personal experiences, we cannot, in good conscience, recommend that you join Ge-Dating.com. They have demonstrated to us and, it would seem, to many others, that they have a very poor record of keeping their customers / members happy.

As reviewers we aim for two things. Firstly, we aim to provide a fair review, based on the way a site operates and services their members, in the context of other sites, within the same general category (we try to compare apples to apples etc). Secondly, we aim to refrain from outright negative critiques. We feel it's tempting to over-react when focusing on what a site does improperly or if they are committing an oversight that results in doing a disservice to their members. However, what follows is factual.

At the time of writing, GE-Dating are the website arm of a US-based nationally known matchmaking service called Great Expectations. The business uses live representatives although you sign-up online to become a member of Ge-Dating. We assume that your information is electronically forwarded to the live representatives who contact you by phone within 24 hours. In attempting to join the site (in order to review it) we were stopped in the process because the site's sign-up form would not accept a cell phone (based in the USA) as a home phone.

Being dedicated, we contacted their call center, spoke to a representative and informed her of our purpose, who told us she was very busy and didn't have time for us. When asked if we could have the phone number to corporate headquarters, she informed us, "They don't want us giving that number out". We re-iterated just what we were there for but that didn't seem to matter.

Incidentally, the company is currently reworking their parent company's website. We would guess they want more or new business. Good luck to them with that because after we searched the web for user comments and reviews we were treated to a barrage of incredibly negative reports from paying members. These members' anger towards GE-Dating was palpable. Their complaints were numerous and varied: there were those who showed overt hostility at (allegedly) being harassed over the phone by live representatives from GE-Dating who would (allegedly) not take no for an answer, while (allegedly) demanding that the member upgrade his service. Another outraged member stated that he had an expensive two year contract with GE, then just six months into the contract he married a very nice woman whom he met through GE-Dating, but GE-Dating would not let him cancel his contract, even though he sent them a copy of the mariage license! The man stated that the amount owed to them would have been a significant contribution as down payment for their home together. Other members complained about (allegedly) getting multiple phone calls for the same offer, day after day after declining it. Yet other members protested about being (allegedly) harassed on their cell phone if they were working too much and had lost interest in pursuing romance on GE-Dating. If these alleged reports are factually true, then GE-Dating's idea of "Customer Service" is probably something that most people won't want to experience. With these reports, it's hard to have 'great expectations' about things!

It's possible that GE Dating have a third party marketing company that handles and hires its own representatives on a commission-only basis. This scenario would bring about the conditions complained about on the net. These complaints are consistent and widespread. While we cannot substantiate their veracity, we can't help thinking that most of them may well be valid, especially after the response we received when we attempted to sign up to the site.
